If you were to make a hitlist of unknown grapes - Niederra would by be very high in the list. This grape only grows on Sardinia and there only on the west coast in the area of Cabras. It was nearly extinct until Attilio Contini began to make this wonderful und unique wine from this oldest and most rare type of grape of Sardinia. The wine is left to mature for 10 months in barriques, in small French oak kegs. 10% of other local grapes are added. The result smells like plums, bilberries and blueberry liquor, mixed with balsamic notes, liquorice and a touch of vanilla. The wine needs some air - so open one hour before drinking. Then the ripe sweet fruit shows in the mouth an impressing harmony with strong and lasting tannins and upright acidity. Alcoholic content 14%. Good with meat, game and Sardinian sheep's milk cheese.
